Darar Weyne

Finally again, after some long weeks spent within the city boarders of Hargeisa, I got a chance to visit a rural community, Darar Weyne today. Reason: closure ceremony of a youth leadership training. Although i wasnt over excited about the endless speaches in Somali, given by each and every community member of certain importance (one elder, the eldest of the elders, the elder women, the teacher, and last but not least the participants), I defenitely was excited about the "cool" look of the od man in this picture. I know, "cool" is a worn out expression, but there is simply no other word that would fit to this sympathetic guy! Dreams of being forever young....

Mustafa, young but wise, chairperson of the national youth umbrella organisation, visible in this picture from eye to nose, and sincerely a man of big wisdome, made yet another one of his -spontaneous, but meaning ful - statements on our way to Darar Weyne: "physically i am connected to Somaliland only, but mentally i am connected to the world". I completely agree. Although he has never been outside the boarders of Somaliland, discussions with him will never turnboring, thanks to his open mindedness towards a world which he didnt - physically - see yet.

And a last remark: Darar Weyne translated into English means "when the sun reaches the zenit (short: BIG) and day. Which name could fit better to this wonderful day?
